Descending back into the 80s

It would seem I am watching more Arnold Schwarzenegger films than is perhaps normal.

Total Recall tonight - I had the game of it for my Amiga, but I can't remember anything about the game apart from the music - and what struck me was that old Arnie made a lot of Sci-fi films, and in nearly every one he starts off as a construction worker.

Just an observation

Well, in his most famous sci-fi role, he was a robot. And I don't think Conan started off with him as a construction worker (though maybe that's more fantasy than sci-fi). Can you imagine being a construction worker called Conan dressed in a loincloth? I'm sure that would contravene a number of health & safety regulations on the building site. Plus if you accidentally dropped your double-handed sword from the top of the skyscraper, you'd cause some pretty horrific injuries...

Actually at the start of Conan he is a slave and .....he is building things until they find out he is good with a sword. So still a construction worker. Well perhaps more manual labour actually as it is more carrying and stuff like that than the building. The builders probably had a good union.

So what you're saying is that he was a builder's apprentice? Makes sense. It was his first major film, so a bit early to throw him in at the start as a fully fledged construction worker.
But what about that insightful, thought provoking film that skillfully wove themes of loss, revenge, duty, finding ones true identity & purpose and discovering that sometimes the only way to resolve conflict is with a really large rocket launcher? (Commando). Thought he started that as a retired soldier?
